Description
The Little Haye is a building located on Church Street in Madeley, likely originating as a two-bay medieval hall, with additions and alterations from the 17th and 18th centuries. The structure runs long at right angles to the road and features a central section that is timber framed with painted brick infill panels. It is one storey high with an attic, highlighted by a large dormer with a jettied gable.
To the right, there is a two-storeyed section that is stuccoed timber frame, also with a jettied gable, exposing timber framing and plastered panels. This part includes an 18th-century canted two-storey bay window with sash windows and a modillion cornice. At the west end facing the road, there is an 18th-century painted brick addition that is two storeys tall, featuring a stepped brick gable end and a 19th-century gable. To the right of this addition, there is a small early 19th-century bowed shop window with an entablature and glazing bars, and to the left, a mid-19th-century pilastered shop with a splayed window. An 18th-century painted brick addition is also present at the opposite (east) end.
Inside, the timber-framed range contains cruck trusses, which suggest it was originally a hall that has since been floored.
