Description
The Former National School, built in 1841, is a two-storey structure designed in the Tudor style. It is constructed of buff-coloured brick with stone dressings and features a fish-scale tile roof with gable ends that have stone coping and kneelers. The building has a moulded brick modillion cornice and consists of three bays. The centre bay is gabled and advanced, displaying a plaque inscribed with 'National School' and the date, along with a plain shield above it. The windows are three-light wood mullion types set in chamfered openings, complete with stone dripmoulds; the top lights feature diamond panes. There is a central doorway with a moulded brick 4-centred arch and a dripmould above it. A string course runs at first floor level, and brick stacks with diagonal shafts are positioned over the end gables.
