Description
The Old Vicarage is a significant building dating from around 1700. It is a well-preserved red brick house featuring rusticated stone quoins, a parapet, a moulded cornice, a string course, and a plain tile hipped roof. The structure is three storeys high and consists of four bays. The windows are sashes with glazing bars, most of which are blind, and have gauged flat arches with keystones. The central doorway also features a flat arch, a moulded keystone, and a fine shell-hood supported by carved brackets. The building has a square plan, with the left and right returns extending three bays. It is topped with large brick chimney stacks. Notably, John Fletcher resided here from 1776 to 1785. Inside, there are some exposed timber-framed internal walls, and a full-height staircase with a moulded string and handrail, square newels, and moulded balusters.
