Description

The Church of St. Catherine is a small Georgian red brick church, dated 1743, located in Eyton-upon-the-Weald-Moors. It features red sandstone dressings and a new tile roof. The nave has three round-arched windows on both the north and south sides, each with keyblocks, imposts, and a continuous cill band. A moulded stone eaves cornice runs around the polygonal apse at the east end and the tower at the west end. The nave, apse, and tower are accented with long and short stone quoins. The apse was added in 1850, designed in the same style, and includes a round-arched east window. The tower is constructed in three stages, featuring stringcourses, round-arched windows, and bell-openings. At the base of the tower on the west side, there is a restored stone doorway with panelled pilasters, keyblocks, a circular window, and a date-stone above. The nave windows have also been restored.

Inside, there is a gallery at the west end with a panelled front and pilasters. The apse includes fielded panelling with fluted pilasters and an entablature. The nave features a panelled dado and box-pews, along with simple benches in the gallery. There is a contemporary pulpit, and the communion rail has moulded balusters. The north window contains fragments of stained glass from the 15th to 16th centuries, while the east window dates from 1855 to 1860.
