Description
The gates, gatepiers, and wall to the churchyard of the Church of St Michael date from the early 19th century and are made of sandstone ashlar and cast iron. The sandstone ashlar gatepiers each feature a pyramid cap with a cornice on a plain entablature and have a rusticated shaft on a plain plinth. The piers are connected by an elliptical enriched overthrow. The pair of cast-iron gates has a swept double top and mid rails, with plain bottom rails and alternating long and short arrow-head round-section verticals. The meeting and hinging stiles are plain. The wall extends 40 meters to the north-east and is constructed of coursed stone rubble with roughly shaped rubble coping. This structure is included for its group value.
