Description
Hopton Court Bridge is a bridge for a minor road over Hopton Brook, built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed from brick and stone rubble. The bridge features a single round arch with a span of 5.5 meters, rising 4.5 meters above the brook, supported by abutments and flanked by brick buttresses. The side walls are made of stone rubble and include three buttresses on each side, with splayed approach walls. The central parapet is made of brick and has two brick string courses, while the side parapets are of stone rubble with the same two string courses continued in ashlar. The plain copings, originally made of ashlar, have mostly been renewed in concrete, and it is likely that the parapet and roadway have been raised. On the north-east side, there are retaining walls that include a brick-vaulted footway beneath the road, featuring ashlar segmental-arched openings.
