Description
The Corbet Memorial is an obelisk located approximately 280 meters west of Acton Reynald School. It was erected in 1821 and is made of grey sandstone ashlar. The memorial has a square base consisting of two steps and features a battered plinth with panelled sides and a coved cornice, which includes a carved raven on the west side. The tall tapered obelisk has one inscribed panel that reads: "THIS OBELISK/WAS ERECTED BY/SIR ANDREW CORBET BART/TO COMMEMORATE THE BIRTH/OF HIS GRANDSON/VINCENT ROWLAND CORBET/WHO WAS BORN AUGUST 11 1821/AT SIDMOUTH AND CHRISTENED/AT MORETON CORBET/NOVEMBER 8 1821". Acton Reynald was the family home of the Corbets.
