Description

The forecourt and terrace retaining walls, gates, and gate piers located to the east, south, and west of Acton Reynald School were built around 1840. They are constructed from grey sandstone ashlar and form a U-shape, approximately 420 meters long. The walls feature a battered base, a chamfered string course, and chamfered coping, which ramps and steps up to the piers.

To the south, there are a pair of chamfered-rusticated square corner piers topped with moulded caps and large vase finials that have carved fruit drops. The gateways, positioned axially to the east, south, and west, consist of octagonal gate piers with tall, deeply-recessed panels, moulded caps, and carved finials. Each gateway has pairs of wrought-iron gates adorned with dog bars, dog rails, scrolled panels, and scrolled cresting.

The entrance to the forecourt, which adjoins the stable block to the north, features two square gate piers with moulded bases, raised and fielded panels, a moulded cornice, and ovoid finials, along with two boarded gates. The northeast corner pier is topped with a globe finial.

There are low terrace retaining walls immediately to the south and east of the house, as well as a short separate section to the west. These walls have plain coping that ramps up to the corners and leads to a short flight of steps. Large fleurs-de-lys ornaments flank the tops of the steps to the south and are also found on the coping to the east.
