Description
This outbuilding, located approximately 2 meters east of the School House, is a cottage that has been extended and converted for agricultural use, currently serving as storage. It dates from the 17th century and was extended in the late 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The structure is timber framed with painted brick infill and has a graded slate roof. Originally, it was a two-cell cottage with a later external stone stack, which is now encapsulated in a rubblestone addition to the left. The building was extended by an additional bay to the right in the 18th century, and the eaves were slightly raised. It is a single storey. The framing features large square panels in the 17th-century section and lighter rectangular panels in the 18th-century addition, with the right gable end rebuilt in late 19th-century red brick. The entrance has a central plank door with small flanking openings. Inside, there are timber framed cross walls in the 17th-century part, and the roof has collar and tie beam trusses with vertical struts. A 19th-century cast-iron cooking range is located at the former external stack. This outbuilding forms a picturesque group with the School House, which contributes to its group value.
