Description
Number 7 The Hope is a house dating from the 17th century. It features a timber-frame and plaster construction with some painted brick infill, set on a rubble plinth. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with plain tiles, with a rubble stack and brick chimney on the right, and a 19th-century brick exterior stack on the left front.
The house is a single storey with an attic and basement, and has a two-window range. There is a 19th-century two-light metal casement window under a simple wooden hood, and an inserted 20th-century casement window to the extreme left. On the left side, there is an 18th-century metal casement window in the gable, and a single-storey rubble outshut with a plain tile roof. The right side features an 18th-century metal casement window above a plank door in a rubble porch, which has a plain tiled pentice roof. At the rear, there is a 20th-century two-light casement and an 18th-century metal casement above the basement, which has a 19th-century plank door flanked by three-light casements. The base of the stack has an inscribed stone that reads "T.M. 1691". The interior has not been inspected.
