Description
Holloway Cottage is an estate cottage built in the 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It features regularly coursed and dressed red sandstone with plain angle quoins and machine tile roofs adorned with pointed wooden finials and cusped bargeboards. The cottage has a two-room plan with a central hall and staircase located behind a projecting central porch, designed in the Gothic style. It is one storey high with a gable-lit attic and includes three-light mullioned and transomed wooden casements, which have cast-iron latticed lights set in moulded stone surrounds, complete with labels to the left and right of the central gabled porch. The porch itself has cusped bargeboards and a pointed finial, along with a four-centred outer arch and a plain door. The gable ends are decorated with mullioned and transomed oriel windows supported on carved brackets. A central sandstone ridge stack with moulded capping is also present. Late 20th-century flat-roofed additions to the rear and right are not considered to have special architectural interest.
