Description
This sundial, located approximately 10 meters south of the tower of the Church of St John the Baptist, dates from 1725, although its base may be older. It is made of sandstone and features a stepped hexagonal plinth supporting an octagonal shaft with a moulded plinth and capping. The sundial includes a brass gnomon and a plate inscribed with "Edmd Bullock Ellesmere Fecit 1725 Peter Bassnett James Alexander Church Wardens" around the rim. The hexagonal base may possibly be the remains of a medieval churchyard cross.
