Description
The remains of a castle located in Ruyton-XI-Towns date back to the early 14th century and were built for Edmund, Earl of Arundel, on the site of a castle that was destroyed around 1212. The structure is made of sandstone rubble masonry, although the facing has been removed. The remains consist of three fragmentary walls of a small square keep situated on a slightly raised platform, with the footings of another wall extending at right angles to the north from the north-west corner. The walls reach a maximum height of 10 meters, and both the north and south sections feature rectangular inward-sloping openings of uncertain age. This site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument, County No. 71.
