Description
The White House is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with some minor later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with roughcast infill on a sandstone plinth, and the left gable end is constructed with regularly coursed and dressed sandstone blocks. The roof is covered with slate. The building has a two-cell plan and stands two storeys high. The framing consists of square panels, with four panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, and light horizontal members dividing the top panel. On each floor, there are two small 19th-century casement windows set within the framing, with those on the first floor positioned directly below the eaves. A boarded door with a bracketed gabled hood is located to the left, and there is an integral end stack to the left with a red brick shaft.
