Description

Upper Norncott Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse constructed of stone rubble and timber-frame, featuring brick infill on a high stone rubble plinth, along with an additional stone rubble wing. The roofs are made of corrugated sheets, and there is a central stone stack with a brick shaft on the cross wing.

The farmhouse has a single storey, an attic, and a cellar. The north-west side displays square framing that is three panels high, with studs, middle rails, and tension braces at each end. The ends of two bridging beams are also visible. There is a single wood mullion and transom window with leaded lights, and the cellar has an opening in the high stone plinth framed with oak and topped with an oak lintel.

On the right gable-end return, the gable-end truss consists of a tie beam and collar with twin raking struts, all underbuilt in stone. A single trenched purlin roof is evident. The gable-end features a 20th-century attic casement and a four-light casement on the ground floor.

The left gable-end return has square framing that is three panels high, with jowled posts, posts and studs with middle rails, and two tension braces. The gable-end truss here includes a straight tie beam, twin vertical struts, and a collar with twin raking struts. A double trenched-purlin roof is also visible, along with two-light casements at both levels and an additional 20th-century uPVC casement on the ground floor.

At the rear, the farmhouse is made of stone rubble and is partly covered by a single-storey stone cross wing, which features a plain boarded entrance door to the left and a projecting lean-to outshut to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
