Description
Nos. 7-10 Bromfield is a range of cottages dating from the 17th century. The building is constructed of brick, rubble, and timber-frame with plaster, topped by a plain tile roof featuring old tiles at the rear and brick stacks at the ridge, ends, and front. It has a four-unit plan and is single storey with an attic, comprising a nine-window range. The windows at Nos. 7-9 are two and three-light mullion windows with metal lattice casements, while No. 10 has two 20th-century metal casements and one 19th-century metal casement. There are three 20th-century battened plank doors, with the door to No. 9 set back in a small lobby. Nos. 7 and 8 feature a simple timber continuous hood.
The building has seven tile-hung gable dormers with 20th-century metal casements. The left side is finished in coursed rubble with an exposed end truss, while the right side is brick with metal lattice casements in 20th-century frames on the ground and first floors, set under brick segmental arches. The rear features a chamfered plinth and a gable wall of coursed rubble, with a continuous outshut that has 20th-century metal casements and plank doors, as well as a 20th-century brick stack. Additionally, there are four tile-hung roof dormers with 20th-century metal casements.
