Description

Nos. 13 and 15 High Street is a former public house known as The Lion, which was converted into shops in the late 19th century and is now a single shop. The building dates back to the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a painted timber frame with painted infill panels and painted roughcast render, topped with plain-tile roofs. The structure has an L-shaped plan, with a range parallel to the street and a cross-wing that has a gable end facing the street. It is a single storey with an attic.

The street front displays the left-hand gable of the cross-wing, which has a tie beam interrupted by a multi-pane casement. Above this is a collar with twin swept raking struts. There are two matching late 19th-century shop fronts that span the entire frontage. To the right, there is a large dormer featuring a multi-pane wood casement beneath gable framing, which includes a cambered tie beam and three vertical struts.

On the left return side, there are two framed bays with rectangular and square panelled timber framing, along with a single truncated tension brace to the right. A brick rear extension wing is located to the left. Inside, the building has concave step-chamfered bridging beams.
