Description

The Roden monument, located approximately 40 metres north west of the tower of Ryton Parish Church, is a churchyard memorial dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of painted sandstone and designed in a Neo-classical style. The monument has a square section and rests on globe supports at the corners. It tapers outward towards the top, featuring a projecting moulded ledge that is capped by an urn finial adorned with Greek key fretwork. The inscriptions commemorate Anne, the wife of William Roden, who died in 1843, and Thomas Roden, who died in 1845. The monument is set on a two-stepped plinth that covers the bricked-up family vault.
