Description
Old Cottage is a cottage dating from the late 16th century or 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame set on a stone plinth, with painted brick infilling and plain tiled roofs. The cottage has an integral brick stack, which has been rebuilt, located behind the ridge. The overall shape is roughly L-shaped, and it stands two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic.
The timber-framed wing consists of two bays, showcasing four square panels at the eaves, with herringbone and lozenge-shaped infilling at the gable end. The windows are 19th-century casements, with two on the first floor that may retain the proportions of the original openings, and one on the ground floor. To the right, there is a plain 19th-century doorcase topped with a pedimented hood.
At right angles to the main structure is a long red brick range, built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, which is two storeys high and includes an attic. This section features 20th-century metal casements, raised brick verges on kneelers, and an end stack.
