Description
Adams House is a late 18th century red brick house located on the north side of High Street, originally known as Trentham House. It features a low-pitched hipped Welsh slate roof and a moulded eaves cornice. The building is square in plan, standing three storeys tall with three bays. The windows are sashes without glazing bars set in segmental-headed openings, while the ground floor has round-arched windows with keystones and a central blocked doorway flanked by panelled pilasters, moulded console brackets, and a pediment. On the right-hand (south-east) side, there are three storeys and three bays, with the ground floor featuring two Victorian canted bays and a central blocked doorway. This house was formerly the headmaster's residence for the grammar school established in 1650.
