Description

Langland House comprises two houses, dating from the late 18th century. The frontages are brick, while the sides and rear are of stone rubble with a brick dentil course along the eaves. The roofs are covered in plain tiles, with a hipped section to the cross wing. A brick stack rises from the ridge, and there are projecting gable-end stacks. Number 38 is situated to the right and number 38A to the left, with a large, projecting cross wing at the gable end.

The main elevation is three storeys high with a six-window front. It features 2/2 sash windows with gauged brick lintels and simple ironwork guards, and 3/3 sashes on the second floor. Each house has a central doorcase with Tuscan columns, an open pediment with a panelled soffit, and a 6-panelled door with a re-entrant fanlight containing intersecting tracery. To the right of the entrance to number 38 is a projecting bow window with a lead roof, which features 10/10 curved sashes and 4/4 side sashes; the left-hand bay window replaces the side sashes with brick. To the left of the entrance to number 38A are two 2/2 sash windows similar to those on the first floor. To the left of the main elevation is a blank end wall of the cross wing with a canted corner.

The return side of the cross wing has four 20th-century steel casements in the upper brick level, and a lower two-storey stone-walled section with three 2-light casements with brick segmental lintels on the first floor level. There are doorways and windows flanking a garage door at ground floor. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
