Description

Besford House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-17th century, with alterations and an addition made in the mid- to late 19th century. The building is timber framed with painted brick nogging on a dressed red sandstone plinth, while the right-hand end wall is pebbledashed. There are also brick additions and slate roofs. The framing features small square and rectangular panels, and the eaves have been raised by one panel's height, likely during the early to mid-19th century. The farmhouse has an L-plan layout, consisting of a 17th-century range of three framed bays with a 19th-century rear wing. It is two storeys high with an attic and includes a two-storey addition. At the rear, there are two external lateral brick stacks, with the left stack now at the junction with the rear wing. The building has three 19th-century gable eaves dormers, each with 2-light 20th-century metal casements. There are three first-floor and two ground-floor windows, featuring late 19th-century two- and three-light wooden-framed metal casements with weatherings. The central entrance has a four-panelled door, with the lower two panels being beaded flush and the upper two glazed, framed by a moulded architrave and a late 19th-century gabled wooden porch. The rear wing has a brick ridge stack and a lean-to structure at the angle. The interior has not been inspected.
