Description
Grove Lodge (north) is a house built around 1898 for John Jones, an ironmaster and banker. The structure is made of timber-frame and brick, featuring stone dressings. It has a roof that alternates between fishscale and plain tiles, adorned with moulded bargeboards and decorative terracotta ridge crestings and finials. The house is designed in the Jacobethan style and has two storeys with a two-window range.
The exterior includes a projecting gable on the right, which features a three-light mullion and transom window with stained glass in the upper lights and a carved beam above. On the ground floor, there is a canted stone bay window. To the left, an open porch includes a partially glazed door and a three-light window above. The left side of the house has two first-floor canted oriels with stained glass in the upper lights and decorative tilework above, along with three stone mullion and transom windows below. The right side has similar window arrangements, along with a 20th-century conservatory, and the rear has a small 20th-century extension. The interior has not been inspected.
