Description

This is an L-shaped barn located approximately 10 metres north-west of Harris Farmhouse in Baschurch, built in the mid-to-late 17th century with some minor later alterations. The barn features a weatherboarded timber frame and a sandstone rubble plinth on the roadside, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The long range of the barn has double doors on the right, a slatted window in the centre, and two stable doors on the left with another window adjacent. The short range includes double doors on the left and a stable door on the right, with a window in between.

Inside, the framing is visible, showcasing a mix of vertical posts with long, slightly curving and straight tension braces, along with large rectangular panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate on both outer walls and bay partitions. The roof features staggered single purlins with queen-post trusses in three bays of the short range and a queen-strut truss at the north gable end of the long range. There is a 20th-century loft in the long range, but the roof structure could not be inspected during the resurvey in January 1987. The barn is situated at the north-west corner of the farmyard and is prominently positioned alongside the road.
