Description
Harris Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse, possibly incorporating fabric from an earlier building, with later additions and alterations. It is timber framed with painted brick infill, set on a rendered plinth, and has a slate roof. The farmhouse appears to be of 3 or 4 framed bays. The timber framing consists of square panels, 4 from sill to wall plate, with short straight tension braces, the top row of panels possibly indicating a raising of the eaves. A collar and tie beam truss has projecting single-purlin ends to the left gable end. There are one 20th-century and three 19th-century casement windows directly below the eaves, and two 20th-century casements to the ground floor, one positioned where a doorway was previously located. A lean-to addition to the left, rendered to imitate timber framing, has two late 19th-century casements to the front and a 20th-century door on the right side. A 19th-century red brick ridge stack is located to the left of the centre, and an internal end stack to the left has dentilled and moulded capping. A 19th-century red brick range projects at right angles to the rear on the right side. The back wall of the main range features close-set vertical posts to the centre, with painted sandstone below.
