Description
Ye Old Toll House is a toll house that has been converted into a cottage. It likely dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with a 20th-century addition. The building is made of uncoursed and roughly coursed red sandstone rubble and features a conical slate roof with deep eaves and a central red brick chimney. It has a circular plan and stands two stories tall. The windows are late 19th-century casements set in plain stone surrounds, with several being blind, and those on the first floor positioned directly below the eaves. There is a south-west window where a doorway has been infilled. The current entrance is located on the east side, accessed through a 20th-century half-glazed porch. A flat-roofed addition to the north is not of special architectural interest. The building is also known locally as The Round House.
