Description

Norton House, which includes a connecting vestibule with the Church of Holy Trinity, is a former vicarage dating from 1857, designed by Edward Haycock Jun. It has undergone minor later alterations. The building is constructed from rock-faced sandstone ashlar and features a machine tile roof. It is two storeys high.

The west elevation showcases a steep-pitched projecting gable on the left, with a lean-to porch attached to the right. The south side has two gables, with the left one slightly projecting. Throughout the building, there are cusped lancet windows arranged in groups of two or three, along with canted bays on the ground floor of the south side. A gabled dormer pierces the eaves directly above the entrance, which features slightly recessed half-glazed double doors set in a pointed doorway. The structure includes a stone ridge and external lateral stacks, notably to the right of the west elevation and to the left side of the steep-pitched gable. There is also a cellar beneath this range.

The vestibule that links the house to the Church of Holy Trinity to the north is a timber structure with a machine tile roof resting on sandstone walls, which have chamfered coping. It features cusped lancet windows on both sides with leaded lights and intersecting curved braces on the blind panels. A doorway located to the right of centre on the west side has a shouldered head with cusped octofoils above, and it is fitted with double boarded doors that have decorated strap hinges.
