Description
The gates and gate piers, located approximately 60 metres to the east of Berwick House, were constructed around 1878, likely by Stevens of Birmingham. The piers are made of red brick and feature grey sandstone caps. Each pier has a double-chamfered plinth, fluted pilaster strips with shaped aprons in panels, a frieze, and a moulded cornice, topped with a large urn finial that includes gadrooning and other carved decorations. The southern pier has a round-arched recess for a pedestrian gate. There is a pair of wrought-iron gates, consisting of one large gate for vehicles and a smaller one for pedestrians, both featuring scrolled lower panels, a lock bar, and scrolled cresting. Stevens also made alterations and additions to Berwick House in 1878.
