Description
Medwell is a farmhouse, now a house, likely dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century, which was encased in stone in the early 18th century and has seen later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble, with roughcast on the gable, which probably conceals and partially replaces a timber frame. It has a slate roof. The structure features a 2-bay hall range on the left with a flush cross-wing of roughly equal length on the right. The hall range has one storey and an attic, while the cross-wing has two storeys. Mid-20th century casements are present, with one on each floor of the gable and one to the left of a mid-20th century door to the hall range. There is a contemporary gabled eaves dormer above, and a 20th century painted brick stack is located in the roof slope to the right of the hall range. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have a square panelled timber framed cross-wall in the cross-wing, which may have been the former back wall, and there are likely other features of interest.
