Description

Plas Pentre-Cefn, likely dating from the late 17th century, is a farmhouse with later additions and alterations. It was formerly known as Pentre-Cefn Hall. The building is constructed of painted, uncoursed limestone rubble with a slate roof. The design comprises a central hall range with two bays, flanked by gabled cross-wings. It has two storeys, with attics to the cross-wings, and displays a 1:2:1 window arrangement. The windows are C20 casements set within stone surrounds. A gabled porch, located at the angle with the right gable, features an elliptical outer arch and a 6-panelled inner door, the top panels now glazed, along with Victorian floor tiles. External stone stacks on the cross-wings and the back wall of the hall range have late 19th-century yellow brick twin diagonal shafts. A gabled projection on the left side of the rear features a late 19th-century staircase. Late 19th-century lean-to additions are located below to the left and right. Inside, the main ground-floor room displays chamfered cross beams. A late 17th-century newel staircase within the gabled projection to the rear ascends to the attic, showcasing elaborately decorated newels with carved finials, a moulded handrail, twisted balusters, and pendants. The decorative detail on the newel posts is similar to that found at Pentre-Uchaf.
