Weston Rhyn War Memorial

The Weston Rhyn War Memorial is a First World War memorial that was unveiled in 1921. It is made of Darley Dale Stone and is located outside the village hall in Weston Rhyn. The memorial features a Celtic-style wheel-head cross that stands approximately 2 meters high on a rectangular tapering shaft, which is set upon an octagonal plinth.

The plinth is adorned with bronze plaques that list the names of 51 individuals who lost their lives during the First World War. One plaque specifically honors men from the Royal Welch Fusiliers Regiment, while another commemorates those from the King’s Own Shropshire Light Infantry. The front-facing plaque bears the inscription: "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH/ WHO LAID DOWN THEIR/ LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918/ AND WHOSE NAMES ARE/ HERE RECORDED./ YE THAT LIVE ON MID ENGLISH PASTURES GREEN/ REMEMBER US AND THINK WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN."

Additionally, there is a plaque added later that recognizes those who died in the Second World War, inscribed with: "ALSO FOR THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR/ LIVES IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR/ 1939 – 1945," which includes 16 names.

The plinth is supported by a circular stone base that features four stone seats, and the entire memorial is surrounded by a circular area paved with dark grey stone.
