Description
No. 70 Mardol is a shop that likely started as a dwelling, dating from 1717. It features stucco over brick and a plain tiled roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range, with an inserted shop front and two-pane sash windows that have moulded sills. There is a blind central window space on the second floor, where the windows are topped with recessed panels in the parapet, with the central panel displaying the date. The corners of the building are accentuated with angle quoins, and there is an enriched lead rainwater head on the left side.
Inside, the original dogleg staircase with turned balusters and a panelled string remains intact. The front room on the first floor features wall panelling with a dado and a moulded cornice. The rear room includes a corner fireplace and square panelled ceiling beams, which may not be in their original position.
