Description
The stable and coach house, located approximately 20 metres to the west of Upper Berwick, dates from the late 18th century, with early 19th-century and late 19th-century additions. It is constructed of red brick and features a plain tile roof. The stable block has been extended with a coach house to the east in the early 19th century and further extended to the west in the late 19th century, as indicated by the straight joints.
The building is two storeys high and has an integral brick lateral stack at the rear. The central stable includes a boarded loft door to the left, a 2-light wooden casement window to the right, and a pair of segmental-headed 2-light windows on the ground floor, with the left-hand window being a casement. There is also a central segmental-headed stable door. The coach house, located to the right, features a boarded loft door and a depressed archway with hinge blocks, leading to a pair of large boarded doors. An addition to the stable on the left includes a segmental-headed wooden cross window and a segmental-headed boarded stable door. Inside the right-hand part of the stable, there is a tack room with a fireplace and a former groom's room above. This building is included for its group value.
