Description
The canal bridge on the Shropshire Union Canal, located approximately 20 metres west of numbers 1 and 2 Canal Cottages, dates from around 1797. It is constructed of plum-coloured brick in English bond, featuring red brick dressings and grey sandstone coping. The bridge has a segmental arch with a projecting brick keystone, a string course, and a curved parapet. It is supported by square end piers topped with pyramidal caps. This bridge is noted as one of the last surviving unaltered examples in this section of the now disused Shrewsbury arm of the Shropshire Union Canal, which began construction in 1793 and was opened in 1797. Numbers 1 and 2 Canal Cottages are not included in this listing.
