Description
Nos. 3 and 4 Berwick Wharf are a pair of houses built for canal workers, dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. They are constructed with a timber frame and have rendered infill panels, topped with a hipped slate roof featuring deep eaves and a central brick ridge stack. The buildings are two storeys high. The timber framing consists of a light frame with three square panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, supported by tension braces. On the first floor, there are four windows, which are wooden-framed small-paned two-light casements. To the left, there is an off-centre half-glazed door, and to the right, a lean-to structure with a half-glazed door at the front. These houses are noted for their late use of timber framing and their connection to the now disused canal.
