Description
The perimeter wall, gateway, gate, and shelter located to the west and north of the Sundorne Castle site date from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. The wall is constructed of red brick, with the altered sections featuring stone coping. It is shaped like an "F" in plan, with the main section running approximately 150 meters in a north-south direction. This part includes two-stage buttresses on the west face, some of which have collapsed, and these buttresses vary in height, measuring around 2 meters and 3 meters tall, all topped with crenellations. At the southern end, there is an entrance that is taller than the wall, featuring a Tudor carriage arch alongside a pedestrian entry. The pedestrian entrance has a boarded door, while the carriage arch is fitted with cast iron railed spearhead gates that have a curved top and dog rails. Towards the north end, a low gabled shelter projects from the wall, which has a pointed arch entry. The limb of the wall extends eastward and now forms part of a walled garden, with rebuilt copings.
