Description

This is a late 18th-century house with an attached smithy and two cottages, altered and extended in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with a tiled roof, and has a rear chimney stack. The central house has a deliberate symmetrical two-storey facade, featuring two inset windows (the central window having been bricked in). It has segmental-headed cross-casement windows above and similar sash windows on the ground floor. A central entrance is surmounted by a round arch with a fanlight, and now has a 20th-century panelled door. To the left is a single-storey smithy with a hipped roof, a dormer window to the left, four segmental-headed openings, doors at each end, and windows in between, with one being a high-level stable window. Two cottages are attached to the right, with four dormer windows and a central stack. These cottages have two segmental-headed casement windows to the ground floor and two boarded doors. The overall effect is a cohesive composition with the main house.
