Description

A house dating from the mid-17th century, with 20th-century alterations and additions. The house is timber-framed with rendered infill panels, set on a rendered plinth, and has a tiled roof with side and end stacks to the rear. Originally built in an L-shape, the parlour cross-wing has been filled in to create a rectangular plan. The single-storey and attic frontage to the lane exhibits square timber framing of four-panel height, with small diagonal braces under the eaves. The slightly projecting cross-wing to the right has more irregular framing, including diagonal struts to a collared truss. The range to the left is a single bay of six panels. 20th-century casement windows are centrally placed in each bay, with an additional small window positioned against the left-hand post-head of the gable. There is no window on the first floor of the left-hand part. An exposed internal beam-end is visible in the panel above the ground-floor window. The entrance is set back on the side of the parlour cross-wing, a characteristic location for a mid-17th century parlour-oriented house.
