Description
This chapel, dating from the early 19th century, was likely built using some reused medieval materials. It is constructed of red brick and sandstone ashlar, with a tiled roof and verge parapets. The building follows a simple rectangular plan and is uniquely entered in the centre of the north side. The north elevation, facing nearby farm buildings, is red brick and features a coved plaster eaves band in the style of the 17th century; it includes a small gabled porch with a round-arched entrance and a boarded door. The south elevation, the primary approach to the chapel, appears more authentically medieval in appearance. It is constructed of ashlar and features three bays sitting on a moulded plinth. The bays are divided by two-stage buttresses topped with crocketed pinnacles, and a crenellated parapet runs along the top. Each bay is fitted with labelled, pointed two-light windows in a Decorated style.
Inside, the roof features arch braces to collared trusses, double purlins with cusped windbraces, and a crested ogee arch over the east window. The floor is of encaustic tiles, and the east window contains stained glass. The chapel was once connected to a structure that has since been demolished to the west; remnants of a blocked gallery arch and paired entrances remain.
