Description
A farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early 17th century with later additions and alterations. The house is timber framed with painted brick and plaster infill, and has a plain tile roof. It originally comprised a 2-bay hall with a slightly projecting cross-wing to the right. The framing consists of square panels, with four panels from the sill to the wall plate, and long straight tension braces to the cross-wing. There are V-struts from the collars to the gables, and painted sandstone and brick rebuilding below the tie beam to the gable of the hall range. The windows are irregular, with 20th-century casements below the eaves to the hall range, and one on the left at ground floor level. One 20th-century casement is on each floor of the cross-wing. A 4-panel door leads into a lean-to porch, situated in the angle between the hall and cross-wing. A prominent external brick stack is located on the cross-wing, with a bread oven abutting it and a datestone "G" on the shaft. There are also subsidiary stacks to the right and rear of the front gable of the cross-wing, and a stack dated 1729 behind the ridge to the left of the hall range. The interior was noted to have chamfered ceiling beams and exposed timber framing with square panels to the ground floor.
