Description

Hill Top Farmhouse is probably 17th century or earlier, with a significant re-facing in the 18th century and later additions and alterations. The roughcast exterior likely conceals a timber frame and brick construction, topped with plain tile roofs featuring raised tile verges and a moulded parapet to the front. The building is L-shaped, with the front facade being a re-facing of an earlier structure. A lower range, which may also be timber framed, projects from the rear angle. The farmhouse has two storeys and a gable-lit attic, with floor bands visible externally. The front features a two-window arrangement with glazing bar sashes. The entrance is located in the right-hand return side, with a six-panel door (the top panels glazed) sheltered by a 20th-century gabled wooden porch. A prominent central stack was re-built in the mid-20th century using red brick, positioned behind the front ridge. The lower rear range has three late 19th-century casements on the ground floor, and two gabled eaves dormers. A later lean-to addition with a 20th-century casement is built against the rear wall. The interior could not be inspected during the 1985 re-survey, but is likely to be of interest.
