Description

The cobbled roadside verges on the west side of Broad Street in Ludlow were constructed between 1829 and 1830. These raised cobbled surfaces, which are approximately 1 to 2 meters wide, slope between the pavement and the road. They begin at Broad Gate and extend northwards to the center of No. 59. The verges were created as part of gradient improvement works that followed the advice of the engineer Thomas Telford in 1829.
