Description
The Harrison Memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 15 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St George in Pontesbury. It dates from the mid-19th century and is made of cast iron. The tomb has a square shape with moulded and chamfered capping on a stepped plinth. At the top, there is a flaming torch finial, and fluted columns are set in recesses at the corners. The inscription panel on the south side, which had fallen into the tomb during a re-survey in 1984, commemorates Reverend Hamlet Harrison, who died in 1843 and served as the rector of Pontesbury parish and Strafford-le-Bow in Middlesex. Additional inscriptions on the north and west sides honor various other family members.
