Description
This is an L-shaped barn located approximately 20 meters north of Barlow Home Farmhouse, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with later alterations. The barn features a weatherboarded and corrugated iron-clad timber frame, with red brick infill at the gable of the south range, and a rubble-stone plinth. The roof is covered with corrugated iron. It is a four-bay threshing barn with a slightly later range to the south, forming an L-plan.
The main range has wide opposing double doors, which are full-height on the north side, located in the third bay from the east. There are eaves hatches to the left and right, and an entrance to the far left with a hatch above on the north side. Inside, the framing is visible, consisting of square panels with three sections from the cill to the wall-plate, and long straight tension braces on dwarf rubble-stone walls that divide the bays. The third bay from the east contains a stone threshing floor. The roof is a double-purlin construction with a mixture of raking struts from tie beams to principal rafters and queen-strut trusses, featuring v-struts from collars at the gable ends of the main range. Barlow Home Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
