Stables and Covered Cartway about 40 metres WNW of Hoards Park Farmhouse
GV II
Stables and covered cartway. Circa C16 and C17; extended in circa C18. Timber-framed with brick infilled panels, on brick plinth; wing of red brick in English garden wall bond with some red sandstone ashlar. Plain clay tile roof with gabled ends; the wing has brick dentil eaves cornice. PLAN: T-shaped on plan. The part to the south of the cartway began a 2-storey one-cell building in close-studding, possibly a granary. At its east end a short C17 timber-framed range was added. The cartway was formed by adding in the C17 a short timber-framed range to the north and roofing over the space between. In about the C18 a brick wing was added to the east side of the south bay. EXTERIOR: The timber-framed range has box-frame with square panels and tension-braces at the corners; faced in brick at the south end; full-height cartway through centre with short braces at the top corners, stable doors and loft openings; gabled bay projecting from the west side has close-studding and corner-posts with long jowls. INTERIOR: Timber-framed partitions on either side of cartway. Queen-strut trusses and tenoned or butt purlins.
