Description
The stables and cartlodge, located 40 meters south of Street Farmhouse, is a stable range with an attached cartlodge. It has a core dating from the late 16th century, with alterations made in the late 17th century and the 19th century. The building consists of about 8 bays and is constructed from timber framing with weatherboarding. It has a corrugated iron roof, which was once thatched, and the cartlodge features a low-pitched roof covered with 19th-century pantiles.
The structure includes pairs of 19th-century boarded stable doors and two larger pairs of doors. The end bays, approximately four in number, adjacent to the road, showcase altered late 16th-century work, featuring arch windbraced studding and a clasped purlin roof, along with evidence of various original features such as doorways and studded partitions. The building was extended to the west in the late 17th century, incorporating primary-braced oak studding, and this section includes the cartlodge, which consists of three bays. The cartlodge has original archbraced binding beams that support a granary floor above. In the 19th century, the walls of the cartlodge were lowered, and an additional bay was added to the west.
