Description
This is a large range of farm buildings located north-northwest of Hoards Park Farmhouse, dating from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. The buildings are constructed from timber framing, some weatherboarded and others featuring brick infilling, with parts built on a sandstone plinth and red brick. They have clay plain tile roofs with gabled ends and are arranged in a T-shaped plan.
The timber-framed east range consists of two sections: the eastern end is a 5-bay barn with a central threshing bay, while the western end has 4 bays and includes a cartway through the westernmost bay. The timber-framed northwest range has been converted into stables and extends southwest, where it connects to a 19th-century barn and stables.
On the exterior, the timber-framed east range features a sandstone plinth, full-height double doors, and a cartway at the west end where it meets the west range. The north end of the west range is partly weatherboarded and brick-faced, with stable doors on its east side. The southwest section has full-height double doors on its east side, with a stable door and windows on either side; its truncated south end is weatherboarded.
Inside, the 5-bay barn in the east range has jowled posts, queen-strut trusses, wind-braces, and tenoned purlins. The west end of the east range features a 4-bay roof with tie-beam and collar trusses, along with posts and struts. The northwest range has a queen-post roof.
