Description

SO 39 SE MORE C.P. LINLEY

7/12 Partridge Farmhouse - and Partridge Farm Cottage - II

Farmhouse, now divided into 2 houses.C17 with considerable later additions and alterations, mainly in mid C19. Timber-framed, now mostly clad in uncoursed limestone rubble; slate roofs graded to front slope, slightly projecting end stack and 2 brick ridge stacks. Roughly T-shaped in plan. Partridge Farmhouse. 2 storeys; 3 windows, C20 casements, those on ground floor under C19 cambered brick heads; central C20 half-glazed door and porch. The 1½ storeyed wing at right angles to the rear (now mainly Partridge Farm Cottage) was possible originally the main part of the house; it retains some timber framing visible below the eaves and was probably once jettied to the first floor; the left hand end of the range is mid C19 (note the difference in the height of the eaves in the 2 parts). Interior. Retains some structural wall framing (rectangular panelling), showing that the right hand end of Partridge Farmhouse is a later addition; massive double purlins (now plastered over) and heavy beams and joists; an infilled inglenook fireplace (beneath the more prominent of the 2 ridge stacks) occupies much of the dividing wall between the 2 properties.
