Description

Partridge Farmhouse and Partridge Farm Cottage is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been divided into two houses, with significant later additions and alterations, mainly from the mid-19th century. The building is timber-framed and mostly clad in uncoursed limestone rubble, featuring slate roofs that are graded to the front slope, a slightly projecting end stack, and two brick ridge stacks. The structure has a roughly T-shaped plan.

Partridge Farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows with 20th-century casements. The ground floor windows are set under 19th-century cambered brick heads, and there is a central 20th-century half-glazed door with a porch. The 1½ storey wing at the rear, now mainly Partridge Farm Cottage, was likely the original main part of the house. This wing retains some visible timber framing below the eaves and may have once jettied at the first floor. The left-hand end of this range is from the mid-19th century, which is evident from the difference in eave heights between the two parts.

Inside, the building retains some structural wall framing with rectangular panelling, indicating that the right-hand end of Partridge Farmhouse is a later addition. It also features massive double purlins (now plastered over), heavy beams and joists, and an infilled inglenook fireplace that occupies much of the dividing wall between the two properties.
