Description

This is a pair of houses located at 52 and 53 Abbey Foregate, built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high with attic dormers and raised over a basement. The right house features a two-window range, while the left has a three-window range, both with wide coped gables and central doorways accessed by steps. The left-hand door has chamfered lattice work panelling and part-glazing set in a two-centred archway, while the right-hand door is an eight-panelled design in a three-centred archway.

Each house has projecting sash windows with wooden mullions and transoms on either side. There is a blind window above the left door, a sash window with a mullion and transom to the right, and a canted oriel window to the left. The attic features four-pane sash windows.

To the left, there is an additional narrower range that includes a wide canted bay window at the ground floor and basement, a sash window with a wooden mullion and transom above, and a small dormer in the roof. The buildings have gable and axial stacks.

The property is complemented by subsidiary features, including cast-iron railings and stone piers leading to the steps and basement area, as well as massive coursed and squared stone blocks forming the area wall.
