Description

This is a pair of houses located on Abbey Foregate in Shrewsbury, built in the mid-19th century. The houses are constructed of brick with Welsh slate roofs and stand three storeys high over a basement. They have a four-window front. A portico porch with three fluted Doric columns and a triglyph frieze provides access to a central pair of doors that rise up to a set of steps. Canted bay windows are situated on either side of the doorway, both on the basement and ground floor levels. The upper windows are four-pane sash windows set within moulded architraves and feature stressed entablatures. A string course runs above the first-floor windows, and sash windows are present in the attic level. The building is finished with an eaves parapet and has gable end stacks. Subsidiary features include spearhead railings around the basement area on both sides of the central entrance steps.
